I will be live blogging from the NCA Convention in San Francisco Nov. 14-17.
11/17/10 5:12PM – I went to Fisherman’s Warf for seafood and then walked all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge. That was about a two mile walk. I tried to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge but I got too cold and tired and had to turn back. The video is posted below. I also went to the Castro and Haight Ashbury. I will post pictures of that later.
11/17/10 12:00PM – I went to a panel and listened to G. Thomas Goodnight, a legend in communication studies, deliver a paper on the economic collapse. After that, I went to a performance studies panel. I now have a greater understanding of what performance studies entails.
11/16/10 9:15PM – I went to some great panels today. I went to one on LGBT collective memory that was incredibly eye opening. Later I went to a panel featuring Dana Cloud from UT-Austin. Yeah, the Dana Cloud that was named one of the most dangerous professors in the country by a far right-wing nut that I won’t mention. The panel was on multiple personae based on Black’s seminal work. By the way, she is super nice and in my opinion a genius. They explained that there is not just the first persona and the second persona but also a third persona, fourth persona, null persona, and the transformative persona. This has given me all kinds of ideas for the ideographic criticism that I am working on right now. I have been trying to combine ideographic criticism with the second persona and now I think I have the framework to pull if off. The convention ends at noon tomorrow so I will actually get to do some sightseeing tomorrow afternoon and evening.
11/15/10 6:00PM – My vision for the live blog is not necessarily panning out. I was hoping to blog updates all the time but I have been too busy and WIFI at the convention hotel is not reliable for some reason. My twitter feed has been better if you want to check that out.
I wandered into a panel on spiritual communication and was pleasantly surprised. One of the papers even used fantasy theme criticism.
I went on a double-decker tour bus today and saw a lot of cool sites including Fisherman’s Warf. I streamed video live and saved the video to my Ustream account. You can see it below this post.
I had some great sushi at a little family owned restaurant called Sushi Boat.
11/14/10 9:44PM – It’s been a long day. I am going to post the pictures I took today, tomorrow. Until then, here is a video that I shot right before the NCA opening session.
11/14/10 3:16PM – I tried to sleep late this morning but I could only sleep until 9:00AM. I did some exploring this morning and went to the Union Square. They have an ice skating rink there in 75 degree weather! I took lots of picture that I will post tonight. I went to a panel on audience immersion and enjoyment. I learned about transportation and transportability. No, that has nothing to do with infrastructure or vehicles. I went to a Graduate School open house that was packed. Imagine 500 students fighting for attention from 30 schools. Now I’m about to attend a panel on exposure patterns in new media.
11/14/10 12:50AM – Just checked into my hotel. I am in the middle of downtown. This should be a fun week.

Ah, technology… yet this is really amazing that we have the capability to do this at all. San Fran looks like a fun place to visit. Love the VO of the tour guide.
